Small Study Group Ministry

"A church must grow larger and smaller at the same time. Larger through worship and smaller through small groups." – Rick Warren

Why is a small study group so important?  Throughout the history of the United Methodist Church, small study groups have played a vital role. From the time of Christ to today, these groups have changed countless lives and helped the church to grow.  They have reached thousands with the love of Christ and offered participants the closeness of a well-knitted community. This gives the church the ability to grow larger and smaller at the same time!

The Viroqua and Westby United Methodist Churches offer small study groups that you can be a part of.  Choose one that is right for you!  Look over the list below and then feel free to contact the related church to reach out to us and inquire how you can grow with us.  You can also check out our community calendar for the next meeting of the small group you have in mind and reach out to the contact person listed.

Bible Study Groups

Bible Study Groups

Discover what God has to say to you during our Bible study groups!  Bible study is one of the greatest ways we grow in our discipleship with Christ and in our relationships with one another. Reading and studying God's Word is an important part of our relationship with God. Sometimes it is easier to study the Bible with others so you can get different insights about what the scriptures mean to others, so please come and join us so you can learn more about God.

The Viroqua UMC offers two Bible Study groups on Sundays.   We invite everyone to join us and be a part of the discussion! Contact viroqua@viroquawestbyumc.org to learn more about our Bible studies!

9:00 - 10:00 a.m. every Sunday morning at the church
6:00 - 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Sunday of the month at the home of Kathy Hanson

The Westby UMC has a Thursday morning Bible Study group that meets once a month at the church. Contact westby@viroquawestbyumc.org to learn more about this Bible study!

Prayer Groups

Prayer is a powerful tool and resource that God has given us, and He wants and encourages us to pray to Him about anything and everything as stated in Ephesians 6:18: And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. The power of prayer is increased when we prayer together for the same requests.

You are welcome and encouraged to join one of our prayer groups to lift up your voice in prayer to our Lord.

Viroqua UMC Book Discussion Group

The Viroqua UMC book discussion group reads books concerning social issues. The group meets usually on Monday evenings about every 6 weeks. The group chooses which book to read and the next meeting date each time they meet. The meeting dates and current book title are published in the Viroqua newsletter and Sunday bulletins so that anyone interested may join. People can attend off and on as a book interests them. This group is open to suggestions for books to read.
