Who we are
We invite everyone to be part of our faith family at Westby United Methodist Church. Our calling is to reach all people with the life-changing power of God’s Love and Grace available to all through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
The Westby United Methodist Church originally began as the Norwegian Methodist Episcopal Church in 1854. After a fire destroyed the first church building, which was located 3 miles east of Westby, a new church was built in 1884 at the present location on East State Street. In 1970, the name was changed to Westby United Methodist Church.
The building has changed several times over the years, but the goals of the congregations have remained steady. At the 75th anniversary of the church it was stated that “The church still stands as a place built on the Rock. Spiritually speaking, as a light in this city.” Today, the Westby United Methodist Church continues to build their faith upon the Rock of God’s word and strives to have His light shine through us.
16 "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." ~ Matthew 5:16 (ESV)
The Westby United Methodist Church welcomes everyone with open arms and open hearts to come and join us as we worship our Lord and be a part of our faith family.
7 "Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God." ~ Romans 15:7 (NIV)
God's love and grace is available to all!

What should I expect when I visit the Westby United Methodist Church?
The Westby United Methodist Church is a family oriented church, so come as you would to a family event. You will not be judged by your appearance. Some of our family members arrive in jeans and a t-shirt, while others like to dress up a little more. It’s not what is on the outside, but what is on the inside of a person that matters.
At Westby UMC, we have two parking lots available, which are both accessible from East State Street. The main parking lot is on the east side of the building, and the other, smaller lot is on the west side of the building. Currently, there is construction on East State Street, so it is difficult to get to our main parking lot. Please use the other, smaller parking lot. You can also park over by the Vernon Communications building, to the north of the church.
The other, smaller lot has handicap parking available since it is by the side door, which is handicap accessible. The main entrance to the church is on the south side, along East State Street.
Our fellowship hall is on the north side of the church and can be reached from either the main entrance to the church or the side entrance. Upon entering the church, go past the sanctuary and through the hallway to get to the restrooms and fellowship hall.
Our church family is warm and welcoming, and we want everyone to feel accepted at Westby United Methodist Church. When you arrive, you will be greeted by someone from our hospitality team, who can answer any questions you may have. You will also be given a bulletin which details the order of the worship service for the day and other information you may need. If you would like to see an example of our Sunday service bulletin, feel free to look at the bulletins from our recent worship services.
The Westby United Methodist Church strives to provide a relaxed, friendly and family-like atmosphere, which is extended into our worship service. The music provided during worship is a blend of contemporary praise music and traditional hymns. We hope to make everyone feel at "home" during our worship service.
Yes, we have a fellowship time after our worship service and it begins around 10:00 AM. The fellowship time is in the fellowship hall, and snacks and beverages are provided. Take some time to visit with others after worship and enjoy a delicious snack.
Westby UMC offers a youth Sunday school program from the middle of September to the middle of May and starts at 10:15 AM on Sunday mornings. This program is for children ages 3 and up. Currently, our youth Sunday school program is like a one-room schoolhouse, and our Sunday school teacher does a variety of projects with the youth. We focus on fun activities to learn about God’s love for us and what following Him means through the following:
♦ Bible Points, Object Lessons, Scripture
♦ Serving Others - Outreach to Nursing Homes, Community and Operation Christmas Child
♦ Games and Crafts
♦ Music, Children's Worship, Prayer
Westby United Methodist Church celebrates communion one Sunday each month, usually on the first Sunday of the month and on other special days throughout the year. Everyone is welcome to participate.
